My final project for Photo 1 at Boston University, PLAY depicts a sense of isolation and unsettlement during the COVID-19 pandemic. I use only red objects to surround the subject of the series––the blue figurine––to draw an uneasy feeling from the viewer. I also include a few uncharacteristic objects in the still life, such as matches, scissors, and batteries, to further this anxious mood.
I set this still life up in my room with only a few bedsheets and objects from my house. I also used a slow shutter speed on my camera and a flashlight to get my desired lighting, surprising myself with what I could accomplish with solely household objects.
